Family Programs

Since 2005, our Family Resource Centre has been providing programs and services that allow families to grow and share new experiences together. Programs are open to all parents and children and are led by trained facilitators in our friendly and welcoming Centre. We are pleased to offer the following programs throughout the year, focusing on parenting, healthy exercise and nutrition for kids, introduction to books and music, and parents supporting each other. Come join us!

Parents and Babes

Parents and children 0 to 3 yrs old (and siblings) are welcome to come out and meet other families in a relaxed and friendly setting at the Dragonfly Centre. If you are expecting a child, you are also welcome to join us. This program is free, snacks are provided, and many resources are available. Parents and children can enjoy the toys and books together. Parents have the opportunity to share their parenting experiences with other. Mothers, fathers and grandparents alike cherish this program as a positive and playful start to the week, Monday mornings 9:00-11:00.

Dad ‘n Me Pancake Breakfast

Our free pancake breakfast, held on one Saturday per month, is a popular outing for kids and their dads (or uncles, grandpas, etc.). Father and child have a great opportunity to do activities together and stengthen family relationships, while Moms get a morning off! We have a great time flipping pancakes and sharing a delicious meal with the help of a Facilitator. Drop by between 9:00 – 11:00 to spend a morning sharing food with your kids and neighbours and enjoying the Centre’s toys and books.

HOP: Healthy Opportunities for Preschoolers

Come run, jump, play ball, and hop with your child! Held every Wednesday morning from 9:00-10:00 in the school gym, a Facilitator leads sessions for children and their parents to develop fun fitness skills for everyday life. For 2-5 yr olds, HOP activities focus on playing, developing confidence, coordination, balance, and body awareness. This program values the learning and bonding that happen when children and caregivers play together. Come try out the tumbling mats, balls, hoops, scooter boards, and more.

Book Library

We have an extensive children's book library and parents can borrow one of our popular Book Bags. Each bag contains 6 to 8 books for you and your child to enjoy together. Some bags have a theme such as seashore, outer space, or castles, while others have a varied collection. The books are changed at least twice a year so there’s lots of choice. Have you read Goodnight Moon, Andrew’s Loose Tooth, Chicka Chicka 123, The Pelican Chorus, or Draw Me a Star? Come check the books out! Thank you for looking after our books so that they are available for many years to come.

Music Programs

Come and join a heartwarming and absorbing music class for children accompanied by their parents or caregivers. Together we will engage in simple songs, melodies, movement, and rhythms to strengthen and inspire the irresistible love for music and nurture the development of rhythm. Increase your repertoire and your resources with practical, useful, and easily incorporated material designed to be used with daily routines. Program dependant on funding and demand.

Mama Gosling

A program for parents and toddlers that focuses on the pleasure and power of using rhymes, songs and stories. Parents gain skills and confidence which can enable them to create positive family patterns during their children’s crucial early years. Come learn clapping and rhyming songs with an innovative Facilitator in a casual group setting. Program dependant on funding and demand.

Parent Education Programs

Every year we offer a variety of programs just for parents, including parenting (How to Talk so Kids will Listen, and Listen so Kids will Talk, and My Tween and Me), Red Cross First Aid courses, advocacy workshops, ‘Takin’ Care of Mama’ evenings, YogaKids skills, and more. We’ve also held babysitting courses for young teens in our Centre. Check our calendar for upcoming parent courses.

Resource Lending Library

Our Resource and Referral Library has a collection of educational books, games, and CD’s for children and parents. The library is a popular way to sign out informative materials aimed at families, parent, and child development. Our Facilitator can also point out a wide variety of resources available to you. The library is accessible to parents at our family resource programs and before and after child care sessions.
