PICCS is a vibrant, non-profit society dedicated to providing essential programs and services to meet the needs of the families of Pender Island. The Society is managed by volunteer Board members, dedicated parents, and trained child care staff. We operate the Dragonfly Child Care and Family Resource Centre, located adjacent to the Pender Island School.
Our mission is to provide high-quality, affordable child care and offer family resource programs and services that foster the emotional, social, cognitive and physical development of children, and that involve and support parents. These programs enhance the lives of children and families of Pender and provide a caring and vital community service.
PICCS was established in 1995 by local Pender Island residents with the goal of establishing high quality child care services in a not-for-profit setting. During the early years, dedicated volunteers raised funds for the construction of a child care centre and the doors of the Dragonfly Centre opened in fall 1998. Since then our Child Care Centre has flourished, becoming a well-equipped, dynamic, provincially-licensed child care centre. In 2005, PICCS took on the role of offering a variety of Family Resource Programs to meet the needs the families in our community. PICCS has created the Dragonfly Centre to be a welcoming place, bringing children and local families together to learn and grow.
